A man identified as a mathematics and computer graduate of Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, Ijanikin, Lagos, has been held by the police in Ogun for armed robberies.

Twenty-four-year-old Afolayan Sunday, who was arrested at Ijoko area of Ota allegedly robbed a POS attendant at a shop in Ijoko identified as Omolola Adesina.

According to the police, a complainant said that the suspect walked into the shop posing as a customer who came to transact business.

“Having realized that the victim was the only person in the shop, he grabbed her by the neck and brought out a UTC knife with which he forced her to submission. He thereafter ransacked the drawer and made away with the sum of N42, 000 in the shop.

“The victim after regaining her consciousness, raised an alarm which alerted the policemen on routine patrol from Agbado Division, who chased the suspect with the help of people around and got him apprehended,” says a statement from Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi.

After he was arrested, detectives discovered that the suspect had earlier robbed one Abimbola Oyebolu on April 17, and one Oluwadamilola Ibrahim on May 31.

“He was said to have inflicted various degrees of machete injuries on the duo before he forcefully dispossessed them of their phones and money,” Oyeyemi stated adding that the police recovered from the suspect N42, 000 which he allegedly took from the shop and a UTC knife.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) Bashir Makama has ordered the transfer of the suspect to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for discreet investigation and prosecution.
