A former senator who represented Kaduna Central in the last Senate, Shehu Sani, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Sani was reportedly arrested in Abuja today for allegedly collecting money in the name of the EFCC acting chairman, Ibrahim Magu.

He was alleged to have collected $20,000 from a popular Kaduna businessman, Sani Dauda, under the guise of handing it over to Magu.

It was learnt that the former Senator had however returned the money after the deal leaked and the businessman was invited by EFCC to make a statement.

NewsmakersNG learnt that Sani tried hard to evade invitation and arrest by EFCC operatives as he switched off his known telephone lines for days.

He was eventually tracked down to a location in Abuja and was picked up about 6pm.

The Commission, it was learnt, is interested in finding out if Sani had been using Magu’s name in this way, or if this was an isolated case.
