An Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House, Abuja, has tested positive to COVID-19.

NewsmakersNG learnt that the unidentified officer was taken to an Isolation Center in Abuja on Friday.

NewsmakersNG also learnt that the police in Lagos have taken steps to control the spread of Coronavirus after 18 officers were infected at two barracks in Ikeja, Lagos. The authorities prevented further spread by compelling every police officer to wear nose mask.

There were earlier reports of ACP Atiku Nagodi who died in Kano; DCP Adie Bissong in Benin City, Edo State, and one officer in Ogun.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had on Sunday confirmed 248 new COVID-19 cases in Nigeria, taking the total number to 4,399.

According to the agency, Nigeria also recorded 17 more deaths from the pandemic, taking the country’s death toll to 143 with total recoveries rising to 778.

Eighty-one of the new cases were in Lagos State, 35 in Jigawa, while Borno and Kano states each had 26 new confirmed cases.
