No fewer than 50 Nigerians who were stranded in Pakistan due to the COVID-19 pandemic have been evacuated by the federal government.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission said on its Twitter handle, @nidcom_gov, that the evacuees arrived the country in the early hours of today.

According to the Commission, the aircraft which conveyed them touched down at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, at 1.45am.

It added that the evacuees have commenced a 14-day compulsory self-quarantine in line with the protocol put in place by the government to check the spread of COVID-19.

The tweets read, “50 Stranded Nigerians in Pakistan landed in Abuja, Nigeria today, Friday 19th June 2020 about 0145HRS via Tarco Air.

“All Evacuees now on Compulsory 14 days SELF ISOLATION according to the new Protocol by the Presidential Task Force on #Covid_19.”
