President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to veteran journalist and renowned media executive, Oludare Babarinsa, as he marks his 70th birthday, lauding his decades of dedication to journalism and nation-building.
In a press statement signed by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President extolled Babarinsa’s illustrious career, which spans over four decades and includes pivotal roles at Daily Times, Concord Newspapers, Newswatch, and a transformative 15-year tenure as Executive Director at Tell Magazine.
“Babarinsa’s journalism journey has been one of passion, courage, and an unwavering commitment to truth,” Tinubu stated, highlighting the celebrant’s influence as a journalist-historian and advocate for the political and economic integration of the Yoruba people.
The President also praised Babarinsa’s fearless stance during Nigeria’s military era, when he and other bold media professionals risked all in the pursuit of press freedom and the return to democracy.
Beyond reporting, Babarinsa was commended for his leadership in nurturing future media leaders through his work with the Nigeria Guild of Editors and his current role as Chairman/Managing Director of Gaskiya Media.
“As he joins the league of septuagenarians, we pray for his continued health, vitality, and many more years of meaningful contributions to Nigeria,” President Tinubu added.
Dare Babarinsa kickstarted his birthday celebration today with the launch of his book, ‘Eat Now, Pay Later’ at the Oranmiyan Hall, Lagos Airport Hotel. He was celebrated at the event as a towering figure in Nigerian journalism, known for his integrity, incisive writing, and dedication to the ideals of truth and justice.
