President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has pledged sweeping federal interventions to address key infrastructure and environmental challenges facing the Southeast region, promising to integrate Anambra State into the national development agenda.

Speaking during a civic reception held at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka on Thursday, President Tinubu assured citizens of Anambra that the Federal Government would prioritize the completion of abandoned road projects, combat the devastating effects of erosion, and include the state in the National Rail and Gas Master Plans.

“Abandoned federal road projects that link Anambra to Kogi can become the fastest gateway between Abuja, Anambra South and the South-South. I agree,” the President affirmed, responding directly to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s appeal for renewed federal attention.

In a commitment to infrastructure inclusion, Tinubu disclosed that the Ministry of Transportation would revise the National Rail Master Plan to incorporate Anambra, long excluded from the vital network. He also pledged to address the state’s absence from the National Gas Master Plan, unlocking the economic potential of Anambra’s vast natural gas reserves.

The President’s remarks were warmly received as he highlighted a vision of unity and shared prosperity for Nigeria. “We are one family, a single family, diverse, living in the same house called Nigeria. Our diversity must lead to prosperity,” he declared, earning enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

As part of his working visit, President Tinubu was conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title of Dikesinba of Anambra State by the Council of Traditional Rulers, led by Igwe Chidubem Iweka of Obosi. He also reminisced on a previous title, Omenife of Awka, awarded to him in 2005.

The day’s events included the commissioning of the Emeka Anyaoku Institute for International Studies and Diplomacy at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, as well as a tour of the Solution Fun City—an expansive leisure and tourism hub developed by the Soludo administration.

President Tinubu also inaugurated the Emeka Anyaoku Boulevard and launched the Anambra Tour of Light, a showcase of monuments honoring Southeast icons such as Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Prof. Chinua Achebe, and Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

Governor Soludo described the visit as “historic and consequential,” lauding Tinubu’s economic reforms and investment in critical Southeast infrastructure, including the Second Niger Bridge and Enugu-Onitsha road rehabilitation.

“In Anambra, we are firmly and comfortably progressives,” Soludo said, aligning the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda. “We are prepared to support him in every possible way—not just to succeed, but to excel.”

The event was graced by political leaders, youth advocates, industrialists, and traditional authorities, all voicing their support for President Tinubu’s leadership and vision of a more inclusive, united Nigeria.
