Femi Ashekun/

Nigerian singer, Teniola Apata, simply known as Teni, has explained why she prostrated to greet businessman and socialite, Ibrahim Egungbohun, popularly known as IBD Dende, in a viral video.

Teni came under fire after she shared a video of herself prostrating to greet IBD Dende on a plane via her X handle yesterday.

While posting the video, she wrote, “I met IBD Dende for plane, Baba don drop oooooooo!!!! Make I land first!!!!!! I go share update!!!”

But most of the commentators slammed her for associating with IBD Dende despite smuggling allegations levelled against him by an online publication.

Reacting this morning, Teni explained that she wasn’t aware of any criminal activities associated with IBD Dende, adding that the businessman showed her kindness in 2014 before she hit stardom, and since then she has held him in high esteem.

She added that she does not support criminals.

She wrote, “[I] Met IBD [Dende] in 2014 and he was so good to me, even before I blew up. So when[ever] I see him, it’s always love.

“I honestly had no knowledge of any criminal activities associated with him. I do not support criminals, so let the law take its course.”
