The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, will chair the public presentation of the book Nigeria Media Renaissance: GOCOP Perspective on Online Publishing, published by the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).

The event is scheduled to take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Continental Hotel, Abuja.

President of GOCOP, Maureen Chigbo, confirmed the development, noting that the book launch will attract eminent personalities from various sectors, including top government officials, captains of industry, media professionals, representatives of international organisations, and directors of non-governmental organisations.

Alhaji Idris, who was sworn in as Minister on August 21, 2023, was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He brings to the role over three decades of experience spanning broadcasting, print journalism, public relations, and advertising.

He holds degrees in English Studies from both Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and Bayero University, Kano. A seasoned entrepreneur, Idris is the founder of leading media outfits such as Blueprint newspaper, WE FM radio station, and Rapid Television, all based in Abuja.

He is also a prominent member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), the African Public Relations Association (APRA), the Public Relations Consultants Association of Nigeria (PRCAN), and the Newspaper Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria (NPAN).

Through his communications firm, Bifocal Communications, Idris has provided services to both local and international clients. His commitment to community development is reflected in his philanthropic work through the Mohammed Idris Malagi (MIM) Foundation, which has positively impacted countless lives. In recognition of his contributions, the Etsu Nupe conferred on him the traditional title of “Kaakaki Nupe.”

A statement by GOCOP’s Publicity Secretary, Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke, quoted Chigbo as saying that proceeds from the book launch will go toward funding the N2.3 billion GOCOP Media Centre project. The proposed centre will serve as a multi-purpose facility, featuring a secretariat, a 21st-century digital library, and modern event halls, among other amenities.

Nweke added that GOCOP was established to uphold professionalism in online journalism. The Guild, which comprises seasoned editors and senior journalists from both print and broadcast media, now focuses on advancing the standards of online publishing. With a membership of 120 corporate publishers, GOCOP remains committed to promoting ethical journalism and fostering innovation in the digital media space.
