The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched the 2025 Lean Season Food Security and Nutrition Crisis Multisector Plan for Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe States, aiming to combat severe hunger and malnutrition projected to impact millions in the coming months.

The initiative was unveiled in Abuja by the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who described the plan as “a promise of dignity, not just aid,” emphasizing that the response is as much a moral obligation as it is a humanitarian one.

“Behind every data point is a mother skipping meals, a child with stunted growth, a farmer caught between drought and danger,” the Minister declared. “We cannot afford to delay. This plan is a call to conscience, collaboration, and coordinated action.”

The multisector strategy brings together critical sectors — including food assistance, nutrition, health, WASH, protection, agriculture, and early recovery — in a unified approach designed to not only address immediate needs but lay the groundwork for long-term resilience.

The plan incorporates cutting-edge tools such as geotagged vulnerability mapping and digital targeting via the National Social Register, ensuring aid reaches displaced populations and host communities with greater speed and transparency.

“This plan is homegrown but evidence-based, rooted in local leadership and state-level ownership,” the Minister said, pledging that every kobo spent would be traceable and impactful.

In a direct appeal to international partners, the Minister called for strategic alignment with national systems and sustained support: “This is not a one-off intervention. It’s a foundational shift from seasonal relief to sustained recovery.”

The launch marks a renewed commitment under the Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure that no Nigerian — especially in conflict-affected regions — is left behind in the fight against hunger and poverty.
