Cape Town, South Africa — Oando PLC’s bold expansion across Africa’s energy landscape is set to take center stage at African Energy Week (AEW) 2025, as the company’s Group Chief Executive, Jubril Adewale Tinubu, prepares to address top global investors, policymakers, and industry leaders in Cape Town this October.

Coming off a transformative year marked by a landmark $783 million acquisition of Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NAOC) from Eni, Oando is poised to reveal how it’s rewriting the playbook for indigenous African energy companies. The acquisition effectively doubled Oando’s reserve base to approximately one billion barrels of oil equivalent, while boosting its interests in four strategic onshore oil mining leases in Nigeria.

“This is more than an expansion—it’s a declaration of intent,” said an industry analyst ahead of AEW. “Oando is repositioning as a regional powerhouse.”

Through its upstream arm, Oando Energy Resources (OER), the company has now extended its footprint to Angola, securing a 45% operating stake in the highly prospective Block KON 13 in the onshore Kwanza Basin. With up to 1.1 billion barrels in estimated resources, the move marks Oando’s debut in Angola—a key milestone in its pan-African growth vision.

In a further demonstration of its global ambitions, Oando was recently named the preferred bidder for the Petrotrin refinery lease in Trinidad and Tobago. This potential deal aligns with Oando’s integrated energy strategy, aimed at enhancing refining capacity and strengthening supply chain resilience across markets.

“Oando PLC represents the kind of bold, forward-looking leadership that Africa’s energy sector needs,” said Ore’ Onagbesan, Program Director of AEW. “Their expansion into new markets like Angola reflects the confidence and capability of African firms to lead on the global energy stage.”

At AEW 2025, themed Invest in African Energies, Tinubu is expected to outline Oando’s vision for sustainable growth, regional integration, and responsible investment—while signaling new opportunities for partnerships and joint ventures in both upstream and downstream operations.

Oando’s evolving narrative is fast becoming a case study in indigenous innovation and strategic agility—setting a benchmark for how African energy players can thrive in a fast-shifting global energy economy.
