The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a strong warning to Nigerians, urging them to stop using a particular batch of Dove Beauty Cream Bar Soap due to safety concerns.

In an official statement, NAFDAC disclosed that the soap, specifically the 100g bar with batch number 81832M 08, contains a harmful chemical called Butylphenyl Methylpropional, also known as Lilial.

This substance has been linked to serious health issues, including risks to reproductive health and potential harm to unborn children.

Lilial, a synthetic fragrance often used in cosmetics, has already been banned in Europe due to its potential to cause allergic reactions and reproductive problems.

NAFDAC revealed that the chemical’s presence in the Dove soap violates international safety regulations, making the product unsafe for use.

This isn’t the first time concerns have been raised about Dove products. NAFDAC noted that other Dove items containing Lilial, such as body lotions, antiperspirants, and shower gels, have also faced scrutiny globally.

NAFDAC has advised Nigerians to stop using the affected Dove soap immediately.

Consumers who have purchased the product should return it to the nearest NAFDAC office. Importers, distributors, and retailers are also urged to withdraw the soap from the market to prevent further harm.

The agency emphasised that the importation of soap into Nigeria is prohibited, and any non-compliant products are not listed in its database.

Consumers who have experienced any health problems after using the soap are encouraged to report to NAFDAC via email or through the Med-Safety app available on Android and iOS.
