Olori Janet Afolabi Foundation Launches Food Bank, Distributes Rice to Apomu Residents

Olori Janet Afolabi, CNN award-winning journalist and Queen of Apomu Kingdom, has launched a food bank and distributed 150 bags of 50kg rice to residents of Apomu in celebration of the 2024 Ileya Festival.

The initiative, held on June 3, 2024, at the palace of the Alapomu of Apomu in Osun State, marks the official launch of the Olori Janet Afolabi Foundation Food Bank. The event brought relief and cheer to hundreds of beneficiaries in the ancient town, which serves as the headquarters of Isokan Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Olori Afolabi said the gesture was her response to the pressing issue of hunger in rural communities.

“It is aimed at providing immediate relief to those in need and supporting rural families,” she said. “Every package of rice represents a moment of relief. As we distribute food, we are not just meeting a basic need—we are offering compassion, care, and kindness.”

She emphasized that the effort goes beyond physical sustenance. “We are not just filling stomachs; we are filling hearts with hope. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, can have a profound impact.”

Olori Afolabi added that the food bank would offer a range of services beyond food distribution. These include nutritional education and counseling for indigent families.

“We are honoured to launch this food bank to address hunger and promote well-being in our community,” she said. “We recognise that hunger is a reality for many, and we want to do something about it.”

According to her, the food bank is not merely a pantry, but a powerful symbol of empathy and support. “It is a reminder to those in need that they are seen, heard, and valued. This food bank stands as a testament to our commitment to serving the community.”
