Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Ltd. (SNEPCo) says Nigerian companies stand to gain significantly—if they prepare to seize emerging opportunities in offshore and shallow water oil and gas projects.
Speaking at the 5th Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, today, SNEPCo Managing Director Ronald Adams highlighted the potential of major projects such as Bonga Southwest Aparo, Bonga North, and the Bonga Main Life Extension to enhance local business growth and technical capability. His remarks were delivered by the company’s Head of Supply Chain, Charles Oranyeli.
“SNEPCo pioneered Nigeria’s deepwater frontier with the Bonga development—the country’s first deepwater exploration and production venture,” Adams said. “Our operations have greatly benefitted Nigerian businesses, and we expect them to position themselves to take up even greater opportunities.”
Adams noted that with the right investment in skills and systems, Nigerian companies can deepen their participation across key service areas, including logistics, drilling, subsea fabrication, mooring and loading systems, pressure vessels, gas processing, and civil works.
Since commencing production at Bonga in 2005, SNEPCo has supported the growth of local contractors and service providers by fostering capacity development, a skilled workforce, and adherence to safety, timelines, and budget—within Nigeria and across West Africa.
These efforts have empowered Nigerian companies to contribute significantly to the operations of the Bonga Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, which reached a major milestone with the production of its one-billionth barrel of oil on February 3, 2023.
“SNEPCo sees Nigerian content development not just as a regulatory requirement but as a core business driver,” Adams said. “We remain committed to enabling Nigerian firms to take on even more critical roles in oil and gas operations.”
The three-day NOGOF is hosted by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), with the theme: “Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development.”
SNEPCo is a sponsor of the event and is hosting an exhibition showcasing its contributions to Nigeria’s economic and community development.
