Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has announced that all Southeast governors are firmly behind President Bola Tinubu, regardless of political affiliation, signaling a strategic alignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking in an upcoming State House documentary marking President Tinubu’s second year in office, Umahi urged opposition leaders—especially former Anambra governor Peter Obi—to join hands with the administration for the benefit of the Southeast.

“The South East is happy with the President,” Umahi said. “We are seeing federal projects in places that were previously neglected. Now is the time to support what works.”

The minister revealed that key infrastructural projects are ongoing across the region, including the Port Harcourt–Enugu expressway, the Enugu–Abakaliki road, and the landmark Second Niger Bridge, with Tinubu’s administration already committing 30% of the bridge’s total cost.

He also disclosed plans for a regional summit that will bring Southeast leaders together to formally endorse Tinubu for a second term. “It’s not about politics—it’s about development,” Umahi stated.

In a major infrastructure update, Umahi confirmed that the much-anticipated Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway will be tolled from December 2025. The tolling will begin with Section 1—stretching 47.47 kilometers from Ahmadu Bello Way to Eleko Junction—of which over 80% has been completed.

“This highway is more than a road—it is an economic corridor,” said Umahi. “With solar-powered lights, CCTV infrastructure, and carbon credit advantages, it’s designed for sustainability and profitability. We expect a return on investment in 10 years.”

Additional highlights include the flag-off of Sections 3 and 3B of the Coastal Highway, covering 65 kilometers across Cross River and Akwa Ibom States, as well as progress on the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and the revival of the colonial-era Trans-Saharan Trade Route.

Umahi praised President Tinubu for his vision, saying, “These projects are bringing to life dreams conceived over 40 years ago. It is a testament to President Tinubu’s foresight and commitment to national development.”

The press release was signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
