The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has appointed Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju as the new head of its Edo State Command, as part of a strategic redeployment aimed at strengthening the agency’s operational efficiency across the country.

Prior to his new role, Commander Ofoyeju served as the head of the Tin-Can Island Strategic Command, where he recorded notable successes in the interception of illicit drugs and deepened community engagement on drug abuse prevention.

Upon assuming office in Edo, Commander Ofoyeju wasted no time in issuing a firm warning to drug trafficking networks operating in the state. “Drug cartels are hereby warned to cease their criminal activities or face imminent arrest and prosecution,” he declared in a press statement.

According to him, the redeployment aligns with the zero-tolerance stance of the Brigadier General Mohamed Buba Marwa-led administration, which is focused on eliminating cannabis cultivation, drug trafficking, and related criminal activities nationwide.

“We will not stand by and allow drug criminals to exploit our communities or endanger lives,” Ofoyeju said. “Drugs are fundamentally linked to crime and societal decay. Our responsibility is to protect the public—especially the youth—from the dangers posed by illicit substances.”

The new Edo State Commander reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to the War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign, highlighting the need for both supply control and demand reduction as critical elements in the fight against drug abuse. He called on the public to collaborate with the NDLEA, urging citizens to play active roles in safeguarding their communities.

“We need the support of all well-meaning Nigerians in this important fight,” he stated.

A highly experienced officer, Commander Ofoyeju brings a wealth of expertise in media relations, drug enforcement, and public education. He holds a degree in Mass Communication and a Master’s in Marketing from Benue State University. He has served in several strategic positions, including spokesperson for the NDLEA, principal staff officer in the Chairman’s office, and assistant director of planning.

Commander Ofoyeju has also participated in specialized training programs both locally and internationally, covering areas such as investigative techniques, cross-border trafficking, human rights, and good governance. He is the author of two notable publications: The Last Syndicate and A Dance Against Taboo.
